Links between Past Abuse, Suicide Ideation, and Sexual Orientation among San Diego College Students.
Garcia, Jacob; Adams, Joyce; Friedman, Lawrence; East, Patricia
Journal of American College Health, v51 n1 p9-14 Jul 2002
Explored relationships among childhood abuse, suicidal ideation, and sexual orientation. Surveys of college students indicated that women, particularly lesbians/bisexuals, reported suicide ideation and attempts more often than men. Gay/bisexual men were more likely than heterosexual men to report unwanted sexual touching. The frequency of reported past suicidal ideation showed no significant gender differences. There were more reports of sexual abuse among women, but no differences by sexual orientation. (SM)
