Research on the Prevention of Reading Problems: Are Kindergarten and First Grade Teachers Listening?
Bursuck, William D.; Munk, Dennis D.; Nelson, Cynthia; Curran, Margaret
Preventing School Failure, v47 n1 p4-9 Fall 2002
A survey of 549 kindergarten and first grade teachers examined attitudes toward, and knowledge of, beginning reading practices that have been shown to prevent reading failure, including explicit instruction in phonemic awareness and word identification skills. Teachers generally had positive attitudes toward explicit reading approaches, especially for children at risk for reading failure. (Contains references.) (Author/DB)
