Differentiating Peer Contexts and Risk for Adolescent Substance Use.
Hussong, Andrea M.
Journal of Youth and Adolescence, v31 n3 p207-20 Jun 2002
Examined three models to understand how substance use within best friendships, peer cliques, and social crowds predicts adolescents' substance involvement. Findings based on surveys completed by 377 high school juniors and seniors suggest that each of these three dimensions of the peer context uniquely predict adolescent substance use. Discusses risk in substance-using best-friendship contexts.(SLD)
