Frequency Effects and Second Language Acquisition: A Complex Picture?
Gass, Susan M.; Mackey, Alison
Studies in Second Language Acquisition, v24 n2 p249-60 Jun 2002
In response to Ellis (2002), which focuses on frequency in language processing, language use, and language acquisition, this article argues in favor of a role for frequency in several areas of second language acquisition, including interactional input and output and speech processing. Also discusses areas where L2 acquisition appears to proceed along its own route at its own pace, regardless of frequency of input. (Author/VWL)
