Community Entry in Conducting Rural Focus Groups: Process, Legitimacy, and Lessons Learned.
Smith, Shannon L.; Blake, Kelly; Olson, Carol R.; Tessaro, Irene
Journal of Rural Health, v18 n1 p118-23 Win 2002
The West Virginia Rural Health Education Partnerships program and West Virginia Extension Service played primary roles as community gatekeepers in helping researchers involve rural residents in focus groups to elicit cultural perspectives on diabetes and its management. The collaboration helped researchers gain entry to rural communities and helped community organizations gain understanding needed for outreach and health education program planning. (SV)
