Immigrants' Propensity to Self-Employment: Evidence from Canada.
Li, Peter S.
International Migration Review, v35 n4 p1106-28 Win 2001
Uses Canada's Longitudinal Immigration Data Base to highlight patterns of self-employment in various entry cohorts of immigrants between 1980-95 and develop a model to predict immigrants' propensity to self-employment. Overall, arrival in better economic years, longer residence in Canada, higher educational levels, older age, and being selected for admission on the basis of human capital all influenced the likelihood of self-employment.
