Impact of a School-based Health Center on Emergency Department Use by Elementary School Students.
Young, Thomas L.; D'angelo, Sandra L.; Davis, James
Journal of School Health, v71 n5 p196-98 May 2001
Evaluated the impact of two elementary level school based health centers (SBHCs), located in schools within high-poverty, inner city neighborhoods, on emergency department visits by children enrolled in the SBHC. Overall, SBHCs resulted in significant decreases in non-urgent emergency department visits, but not in urgent visits. Medicaid-insured children were the most likely to use the emergency department.
