Mother-Child Discourse, Attachment Security, Shared Positive Affect, and Early Conscience Development.
Laible, Deborah J.; Thompson, Ross A.
Child Development, v71 n5 p1424-40 Sep-Oct 2000
Examined role of parent-child discourse within a supportive relationship in children's early conscience development. Found that children's attachment security predicted maternal and child references to feelings and moral evaluatives in narratives about previous behavior incidents. Attachment security, shared positive affect between mother and child, and maternal references to feelings and moral evaluatives predicted specific aspects of early conscience development. (Author/KB)
