From the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, Lotsee Patterson (Comanche) successfully lobbied at the national level for legislation and initiatives to improve library programs serving Indian schools and communities and to train Indian librarians. The success of these programs rests in large part on her philosophy that successful tribal libraries depend on trained American Indian staff. (TD)
