Interviews eighteen counselors to study the impact on them of working with domestic violence clients. Counselors described classical symptoms of vicarious trauma and reported changes in cognitive schema, particularly in regard to safety, world-view, and gender power issues. Most reported symptoms of burnout. Discusses implications for counselor training and provides recommendations for best practice in domestic violence counseling agencies. (Author/JDM)
