Factors Influencing the Pursuit of Educational Opportunities in American Indian Students.
Fore, Chris L.; Chaney, John M.
American Indian and Alaska Native Mental Health Research, v8 n2 p50-59 1998
Before beginning a Job Corps program offering postsecondary tuition incentives, 19 American Indians aged 17-21 with previous academic difficulties completed self-report measures of cultural identification, perceived deprivation, attributional style, and noncognitive academic factors. Subjects who pursued further education after the program had appraised their academic abilities more realistically and were supported by others in their academic pursuits. (Author/SV)
