The Relationship between Child Sexual Abuse and Alexithymic Symptoms in a Population of Recovering Adult Substance Abusers.
Scher, Dean; Twaite, James A.
Journal of Child Sexual Abuse, v8 n2 p25-40 1999
Group of sexually abused substance abusers scored higher than non-abused group on the Toronto Alexithymia Scale. Alexithymia symptomatology was found to be positively related to the duration of the sexual abuse. Results were interpreted as indicating that the development of symptoms may represent another defense victims employ to insulate themselves from painful affect. (Author/JDM)
