Examined data of two studies concerning child upbringing norms and ideals, mothers' views on public child care services, and general tendencies in family ideology in eight European countries. Found contextual differences between the compared national samples related to such circumstances as socioeconomic status, family policies, and supply and content of public child care services. (SD)
