Coping with Daily Hassles in the Peer Group during Early Adolescence: Variations as a Function of Peer Experience.
Bowker, Anne; Bukowski, William M.; Hymel, Shelley; Sippola, Lorrie K.
Journal of Research on Adolescence, v10 n2 p211-43 2000
Examined impact of peer experience on seventh graders' strategies for coping with peer hassles. Found that more aggressive adolescents perceived more control over hassles. More aggressive, unpopular adolescents used more negative strategies; more popular aggressive females used more problem-focused strategies. Withdrawn adolescents perceived less control over peer hassles, used fewer negative and problem-focused strategies, and used more emotion-focused strategies. (Author/KB)
