Parental Monitoring and Adolescent Adjustment: An Ecological Perspective.
Jacobson, Kristen C.; Crockett, Lisa J.
Journal of Research on Adolescence, v10 n1 p65-97 2000
Examined associations between parental monitoring and adolescent adjustment. Found that higher monitoring was associated with higher grade point average, lower depression, less sexual activity and minor delinquency, except for boys' depression. Monitoring effects increased across grade level for boys and decreased for girls. Monitoring predicted problem behaviors for children of mothers employed full time, with gender moderating these associations. (Author/KB)
