The Diagnostic Process from a Freirean Perspective.
Demmitt, Alan; Oldenski, Thomas
Journal of Humanistic Counseling, Education and Development, v37 n4 p232-40 Jun 1999
Presents a way of approaching the reality of oppression in the counseling profession to ameliorate the pain and suffering that characterizes many lives. Asserts that mental health professionals can benefit from awareness of Freire's process of naming, reflecting, and acting. Describes unintended consequences of diagnosing that may be intended consequences of those who profit from attaching labels to unconventional behaviors. (Author/JDM)
