Conceptual and Empirical Links between Children's Social Spheres: Relating Maternal Beliefs and Preschoolers' Behaviors with Peers.
Coplan, Robert; Hastings, Paul D.
New Directions for Child and Adolescent Development, n86 p43-59 Win 1999
Examined flexibility in mothers' parenting goals and attributions; identified correlates and determinants of beliefs in response to preschoolers' defiance and aggression, and the effects of maternal beliefs on children's social outcomes. Found that mothers demonstrated flexible beliefs according to the nature of the misdeed and responded differently to boys and girls. Maternal beliefs predicted teachers' ratings of children's behavior. (KB)
