Weaving Multiple Literacies: Somali Children and Their Teachers in the Context of School Culture.
Masny, Diana; Ghahremani-Ghajar, Sue-san
Language, Culture and Curriculum, v12 n1 p72-93 1999
An ethnographic case study of Somali children in Canadian schools examines the relationship between literacies, school, and community cultures by exploring literacy events as they unfold for Somali children in an elementary school. Field notes and interviews involving Somali and school-community members are analyzed based on the view that literacies are enmeshed in cultural, racial, and religious differences. (Author/VWL)
