The Determinants of Undergraduate Grade Point Average. The Relative Importance of Family Background, High School Resources, and Peer Group Effects.
Betts, Julian R.; Morell, Darlene
Journal of Human Resources, v34 n2 p268-93 Spr 1999
Analysis of the grade point averages (GPA) of more than 5,000 undergraduates shows that graduates of different high schools have significantly different GPAs, partially reflecting neighborhood poverty and education level. Teacher experience had a small effect but teacher/student ratio and teacher education level had no effect on GPA. (SK)
