The Case for Early Intervention in Diagnosing Specific Reading Disability.
Vellutino, Frank R.; Scanlon, Donna M.; Tanzman, Melinda S.
Journal of School Psychology, v36 n4 p367-97 Win 1998
The case against the use of psychometric assessment as the primary vehicle for diagnosing specific reading disability is presented; instead, the authors suggest that diagnosis should begin with remedial intervention. The child's response should be the most important piece of diagnostic information. Findings from a recent intervention study support early intervention. (EMK)
