Conflict of American Immigrants: Assimilate or Retain Ethnic Identity.
McDonald, Hellen G.; Balgopal, Pallassana R.
Migration World Magazine, v26 n4 p14-22 1998
The ideas of "melting pot" theory and cultural pluralism are examined in relation to U.S. immigration before and after the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act. The newer immigrant, because of diverse religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, deals with different issues of assimilation and ethnic identity than pre-1965 immigrants who assimilated more readily.
