Relationship Between Learner Attitudes, Prior Achievement, and Performance in a General Education Course: A Multi-Institutional Study.
House, J. Daniel; Hurst, Richard S.; Keely, Edward J.
International Journal of Instructional Media, v23 n3 p257-71 1996
A study of 335 undergraduates enrolled in introductory psychology courses at two universities found that learner initial attitudes were predictors of academic achievement and that prior academic achievement was the single predictor variable in a logistic regression analysis of whether students earned satisfactory grades. These results support the consideration of initial learner characteristics in instructional design. (Author/PEN)
