Cognitive-Motivational Variables and Prior Achievement as Predictors of Grade Performance of Academically Underprepared Students.
House, J. Daniel
International Journal of Instructional Media, v22 n4 p293-304 1995
A study of 545 academically underprepared undergraduates found that attitudes were predictors of later grade performance, that academic background was more important than attitudes, and that initial learner characteristics did not predict grade performance similarly for each ethnic group (Hispanic, Asian-American, African-American, White). The findings suggest initial learner characteristics should be considered in instructional design. Contains 50 references and four tables. (Author/PEN)
