Peer Helping/Involvement: An Efficacious Way to Meet the Challenge of Reducing Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Use Among Youth?
Black, David R.; Tobler, Nancy S.; Sciacca, John P.
Journal of School Health, v68 n3 p87-93 Mar 1998
Reviews peer-led substance-abuse prevention programs for middle school youth to determine whether they are efficacious in minimizing substance use. A meta-analysis of 120 studies examined program features and effectiveness. Results indicated that interactive peer interventions for middle school students were statistically superior to non-interactive, didactic lecture programs led by teachers/researchers. (Author/SM)
