The Social Networks of Leaders in More or Less Viable Communities Six Years Later: A Research Note.
O'Brien, David J.; Raedeke, Andrew; Hassinger, Edward W.
Rural Sociology, v63 n1 p109-27 Mar 1998
Six-year followup study of five rural Missouri communities found that community viability in terms of maintenance as trade and service center had become disconnected from demographic variables such as school enrollment. Unexpectedly, leaders of more viable places were not better educated or demographically different from other leaders, but had more elaborate long-term social networks. Contains 38 references. (SV)
