A study examined the use of open-ended activities as a strategy for providing differentiated instruction and challenge for 11 gifted students (grades 3-4). Findings revealed the use of open-ended activities perpetuated patterns of consistency and comfort in the students' learning. Instructional implications for designing open-ended activities are presented. (Author/CR)
