When Practice is Difficult: An Academic Substitutes in Public Child Care.
Wien, Carol Anne
Canadian Journal of Research in Early Childhood Education, v6 n3 p237-49 Oct 1997
Uses a narrative methodology to explore a vision of early childhood practice as developmental, respecting individual differences, responsive to social and cultural contexts, democratic, and holistic in relation to a specific teaching experience. Argues that social conditions beyond teachers' control make appropriate practice difficult for teachers. Suggests how work conditions could support teachers' attempts at developmentally appropriate practice. (Author/KB)
