Degree Performance as a Function of Age, Gender, Prior Qualifications and Discipline Studied.
Hoskins, Sherria; Newstead, Stephen E.; Dennis, Ian
Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, v22 n3 p317-28 Sep 1997
A study of University of Plymouth (England) student records investigated predictors of degree performance. Mature students gained better degrees than traditional students, and those with nontraditional qualifications performed best of all. Gender, year of graduation, and type of qualifications were weak predictors, but results differed significantly across disciplines. Results suggest opening access to nontraditional students has not diminished standards. (Author/MSE)
