College and universities urgently need presidents who can reinvent higher education and who have courage, patience, humanity, and vision. Presidents who are currently leading their institutions through fundamental changes have found they must win the hearts and minds of constituents, change some aspects of institutional culture, prepare for a strenuous tenure, and help others face tough realities and choices.
