Social Support and Coping Strategies as Mediators of Adult Adjustment Following Childhood Maltreatment.
Runtz, Marsha G.; Schallow, John R.
Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, v21 n2 p211-26 Feb 1997
This study examined whether coping efforts and social support mediated long-term sequelae of child maltreatment among 302 college students who reported having been maltreated as children. Perceived social support and ways of coping with earlier maltreatment were found to be strong mediating factors and essential to an understanding of the relationship between childhood events and later adjustment.
