Regularities in the Development of Children's Causality Beliefs about School Performance across Six Sociocultural Contexts.
Little, Todd D.; Lopez, David F.
Developmental Psychology, v33 n1 p165-75 Jan 1997
Examined whether children's causality beliefs about school performance show similar developmental profiles across six distinct sociocultural settings. Found markedly similar developmental patterns in their beliefs about the importance of effort, ability, luck, teachers, and unknown factors as influences on school performance. Found that factors such as cognitive maturation, adaptive self-regulatory processes, and commonalities in educational goals were uniform influences. (MOK)
