Using Portfolios to Assess Students' Academic Strengths: A Case Study.
Karoly, Jean C.; Franklin, Cynthia
Social Work in Education, v18 n3 p179-86 Jul 1996
Performance-based, contextual assessments can highlight the academic and personal strengths of students that may be overlooked or judged pathological by traditional psychometric measures. This case study of a 10-year-old African American male special-education student illustrates how portfolio assessment improved the perception of his academic competencies by social workers and teachers.
