Giving Voice to Students' Narratives: Cultural Criticism and Education in the Helping/Service Professions.
Sanchez, William; Fried, Jane
College Teaching, v45 n1 p26-31 Win 1997
Undergraduate and graduate training programs in the helping professions are important sites for professional acculturation of students, reflecting a powerful political process. By giving voice to students' narratives, faculty validate students' cultural perspectives and encourage them to question and challenge professional practices of the dominant culture, empowering them as change agents within their economic, social, and cultural systems.
