The Effects of Linguistic Context on Unplanned Discourse: A Study in Interlanguage Variability.
Makoni, S. B.
Issues in Applied Linguistics, v3 n1 p69-90 Jun 1992
Examines the variable realization of the third person singular -s by Shona learners of English in Zimbabwe. Results reveal little morphological variability among elementary learners and a grammatical variability among intermediate learners that is sensitive to linguistic context and indicative of a tendency to inflect verbs to mark the third person -s if the grammatical subject is realized.
