Examines the prevalence of cohabitation, trends in cohabitation between 1960 and 1990, and the conditions leading older persons to cohabit. Variables measuring individual characteristics, economic motivations, and the social context are used to predict cohabitation. Presents results, and discusses implications for the future as cohorts with significantly higher levels of cohabitation will enter old age. (RB)
