The Relationships between Phonological Sensitivity, Syntactic Processing, and Verbal Working Memory in the Reading Performance of Third-Grade Children.
Gottardo, Alexandra; And Others
Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, v63 n3 p563-82 Dec 1996
Assessed third-graders' phonological sensitivity, working memory, syntactic processing, word recognition, pseudoword reading, and reading comprehension. Found that phonological sensitivity was a strong predictor of reading performance after working memory and syntactic processing had been partialled out. Syntactic processing failed to predict word recognition, pseudoword reading, and reading comprehension after working memory and phonological sensitivity had been partialled out. (KDFB)
