Competent Girls and Problematic Boys? Sex Differences in Two Cohorts of Norwegian 10- and 13-Year Olds.
Backe-Hansen, Elisabeth; Ogden, Terje
Childhood: A Global Journal of Child Research, v3 n3 p331-50 Aug 1996
Discusses sex differences as they appear from a resource-oriented as opposed to a problem-oriented perspective. A study examined a sample of 10- and 13-year olds, collecting data from the children, their parents, and teachers in questionnaire form. Results portrayed girls as competence "winners," while boys became more visible than girls once the focus switched to problems or problem behavior. (TJQ)
