Contextual Influences on Ethnic Identity among Hawaiian Students in the Mainland United States.
Ichiyama, Michael A.; And Others
Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, v27 n4 p458-75 Jul 1996
Surveyed 119 Hawaiian residents, who relocated to the mainland to attend college, to determine the effects of long-term mainland relocation on their attitudes, ethnic identity, and affiliative behavior. Findings reveal declining ethnic identity, an early developing awareness of their changed social status, and an unaffected affiliative behavior towards other Hawaiian students regardless of length of stay.
