Metacognitive, Cognitive, and Affective Aspects of Learning Styles and Strategies: A Phenomenographic Analysis.
Vermunt, J. D.
Higher Education, v31 n1 p25-50 Jan 1996
Samples of freshmen from an open, distance-learning university (n=34) and a traditional university (n=20) were interviewed about their cognitive strategies, regulation of learning, mental models of learning, affective processes concerning learning, learning orientations, and perceptions of effectiveness of instructional approaches. Four qualitatively different learning styles were identified: undirected; reproduction-directed; meaning-directed; and application-directed. (Author/MSE)
