Consonant Clusters in Child Phonology and the Directionality of Syllable Structure Assignment.
Lleo, Conxita; Prinz, Michael
Journal of Child Language, v23 n1 p31-56 Feb 1996
Analyzes monolingual Spanish- and German-speaking children's production of target consonant clusters at early stages of acquisition from a phonological representational perspective. At the beginning stages, target clusters are reduced to a single consonantal position, due to lack of branching of the syllable constituents. At later stages, cluster formation offers evidence for the beginning of branching of syllabic constituents. (40 references) (Author/CK)
