Social-Cognitive Origins of Chronic Stress in Adolescents: Recent Findings from School-Based Studies of Urban Youth.
Ewart, Craig K.
Journal of Health Education, v26 n3 p132-38 May-Jun 1995
Summarizes results from a series of investigations of relationships between high-risk adolescents' interpersonal strivings, social expectations, emotional distress, blood pressure responses to stressors, and elevations in blood pressure during regular school days. Surveys and blood pressure readings indicated that cognitive expectancies and goals for interpersonal relationships were important sources of cardiovascular stress. (SM)
