Reading Aloud: A Way for Parents to Support Their Children's Growth in Literacy.
Halsall, Sharen; Green, Connie
Early Childhood Education Journal, v23 n1 p27-31 Fall 1995
A study of Head Start preschoolers and families suggests emergent literacy is supported by the Home Based Reading Project, but only when teachers teach parents strategies in simple language, offer a library of quality books, and provide materials highlighting reading practices and effective literacy interactions. Parents play a crucial role in child literacy development and later school success. (JW)
