Talking about Rurality: Social Representations of the Rural As Expressed by Residents of Six English Parishes.
Halfacree, Keith H.
Journal of Rural Studies, v11 n1 p1-20 Jan 1995
Surveys of 267 newcomers to 6 rural parishes in Lancaster and Mid Devon (England) and interviews with 113 survey respondents revealed definitions of "the rural" as abstract social representations. Respondents' representations of the rural focused on the physical environment, contained many aspects of the "rural idyll," but also involved engaged and often critical reflections on rural living.
