Examines changes in adolescent gender norms in the 1980s, using data collected from 496 college students who graduated from high school between 1979 and 1982 or between 1988 and 1989. Findings indicate little change in gender norms across the decade. Boys continue to achieve prestige primarily through sports and school achievement, while girls continue to acquire prestige through physical appearance, sociability, and school achievement. (JPS)
