Suburban Secondary School Principals' Perceptions of Administrative Control in Schools.
Myers, Emily; Murphy, Joseph
Journal of Educational Administration, v33 n3 p14-37 1995
Examines control mechanisms that superintendents used to shape and direct suburban high school principals' work. Includes four hierarchical controls (supervision, input, behavior, and output) and two nonhierarchical controls (section/socialization and environmental), along with school social status and district size. The control mechanisms were used in varying degrees in all schools. District size affected the variability of control and autonomy. (35 references) (MLH)
