Problem Behavior and Academic Achievement among First-Semester College Freshmen.
Thombs, Dennis L.
Journal of College Student Development, v36 n3 p280-88 May-Jun 1995
Results of a discriminant analysis of incoming freshmen (n=576) revealed that behavior problems were best distinguished by goal-directed behavior, self-esteem, previous grade point average, and admission status, in that order. A second discriminant analysis was conducted using end-of-semester grade point average, and the most accurate variables in this case are previous grade point average, study habits, career plan certainty, and time management problems.
