Challenging Prototype Descriptions: Perception of Noun Countability and Indefinite versus Zero Article Use.
Yoon, Keumsil Kim
IRAL, v31 n4 p269-89 Nov 1993
Addresses the difficulty of article acquisition by examining the perception of noun countability by native speakers of English and Japanese speakers of English, testing whether native and nonnative speakers have different perceptions of countability. Results suggest a possible link between the indefinite versus zero article suppliance by Japanese subjects and their earlier decisions as to the countability of a given noun.
