Investigated adult and three- and five-year-old children's use of verb inflections to guide their initial mapping of verb meanings in two studies that explored use of the -ing and -ed verb inflections during mapping of novel verb meanings. Results are applied to implications for early verb learning and the use of the bootstrapping construct in language acquisition research. (35 references) (NAV)
