Selective understandings of spirituality written by various theorists were reviewed to examine their implications for practicing counselors and psychologists. It is hoped that greater awareness of spirituality in the therapeutic realm will increase clinical sensitivity to multiculturalism, recovery movements, and dysfunctional religious systems thus increasing therapeutic competence.
