Contributions of Protective and Risk Factors to Literacy and Socioemotional Competency in Former Head Start Children Attending Kindergarten.
Brody, Gene H.; And Others
Early Childhood Research Quarterly, v9 n3-4 p407-25 1994
Evaluated the associations of hypothesized protective and risk factors with assessments of social, literacy, and cognitive competence. Subjects were 117 Head Start graduates attending kindergarten in rural Georgia. Found that caregiver self-esteem, independence-promoting developmental goals, and responsive caregiver-child interactions were positively related to child social, literacy, and cognitive competence.
